Four years ago, I made myself a list of places in and around Louisville to visit -- the Louisville To Do list. There was also a restaurant list, most of which was accomplished. I've been moping around recently, so I decided now would be a good time to revisit and update my Louisville goals.
From the original list, I've:
-been on a distillery tour. Several, in fact -- Maker's Mark twice, Wild Turkey, and Woodford Reserve. We visited Jim Beam but arrived too late for the tour. There are many more to see, and I'll go back to any of these, as I forget the details in between. Also, samples.
-visited and hiked at Jefferson Memorial Forest at least twice
-hiked at Bernheim Forest and checked out their Connect event
-escaped drowning at the Falls of the Ohio
-had a drink at the Old Seelbach Bar
-gone to one or two First Friday trolley hops
-gone to a drag show at the Connection and danced long enough to feel sore the next day
-biked part of the Louisville Loop from downtown to Shawnee Park and back
-visited the Muhammad Ali Center (twice now)
-gone to the zoo
-visited Cincinnati. We have a Trader Joe's in Louisville now, which was one of the reasons I was excited to go there in 2011. I should go back though, since I didn't see much beyond Trader Joe's and IKEA last time.
Things That Weren't on the List But Should Have Been:
-Natural Bridge - I believe Red River Gorge was on a list somewhere, and I would like to go back to explore more. While staying there last February, a friend and I hiked up to the Natural Bridge, which is smaller than I expected.
-Dainty - I finally went to the Dainty World Championships and watched the 45-and-aboves try to hit that little stick. I passed on the bologna sandwich.
To Dos To Do
-Mammoth Cave - I need to see this big cave. While I'm there, I would like to visit Cave City, too.
-The Derby Museum - I think this should be a podcast adventure.
-The Derby & Oaks - four years, and I've yet to get to Churchill Downs on Derby Day. But I've been to some great parties…
-Any of the historic homes - Locust Grove, the Ferguson Mansion (where the Filson Historical Society lives), Brennan House
-Halloween decorations on Hillcrest Avenue
-Sari Sari - I hear they have spicy food here, but every time I'm on that block I end up with El Mundo and their margaritas.
-Drink at the Brown Hotel Bar - it's fancy in there
That seems like plenty to do for now. If I'm missing anything essential, please help me add to this list.
